Matthew is a former member of the Young Vic Fresh Direction programme (2024-2025), and Co-Artistic Director of Trouble & Strife, whose work has been presented at the Barbican Centre, Camden People's Theatre, Theatre Deli, and the UN Rights of the Child Festival in Sweden. His directing credits include productions at Blue Elephant Theatre and Guildford School of Acting. He has trained with Eugenio Barba (Odin Teatret), Katie Mitchell, Mike Alfreds, and Told By An Idiot, and was awarded an Arts Council DYCP grant in 2021.
Directing Trouble & StrifeMatthew's movement directing has been recognised by multiple Off-West-End Awards, including Best Production 2025 for Slaughterhouse Five, which transfers to Southwark Playhouse this June. His work spans intimate studio productions to large-scale outdoor performance, integrating movement with live sound, video and projection as dramaturgical tools. His screen credits include Stanley, A Man of Variety, starring Timothy Spall.
Movement Directing
Matthew trained as an actor at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama and the Gothenburg Academy of Music & Drama. His performance work includes long-running productions with Complicité and the English National Opera, most recently in Angel's Bone, directed by Kip Williams, alongside credits with Theatre503, Chester Storyhouse, Leicester Curve, and Lyric Hammersmith. On screen, he appears in BAFTA-nominated The Outrun.
He is Senior Movement Tutor at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and Associate Director and Tutor at Guildford School of Acting, and has also taught at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, The Actors' Centre, and City Academy.
